What Should a Billionaire Give - and What Should You?
Peter Singer wrote the article "What Should A Billionaire Give - and What Should You?" in The New York Times Magazine. The article is about people, like Bill Gates mentioned in the article, that have billions of dollars to spend or give, and that give around $30 billion dollars to foundations or charities. Bill Gates founded the Gates Foundation, where the money from the foundation goes to children who are sick or dying from the virus called rotavirus. Investor Warren Buffet pledged $31 million dollars to the foundation, along $6 million to other charitable foundations. I believe that the author of this article, along with Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, are believers of philanthropy, because they see that there are people among us that are dying in the world. Nearly 10 million children, which is about 30,000 per day, are dying of having no food, or no water, unhealthy living conditions, or diseases that spread all over the world. Bill Gates didnt even know about the roavirus until he read how many children have died from it. He assumed that there were treatments and medicines that could cure all of these viruses and diseases, and if there werent, that the government would be doing everything in their power to get the treatments, to the people that need them most. Warren Buffett found out about Gate's foundation, and when he learned more about what the foundation was for, decided that he needed to help, by giving a huge amount of money. These people are a believer of philanthropy, because they want to help make a differnece in the world.
